In Solidarity with Bersih 3.0

For the record RunTigerRun is not a SoPo blog.  However the extraordinary events for the past few days left me absolutely bewildered over the incredible arrogance or idiocy of the current regime.  As a friend of mine put it succinctly : "The Rakyat just want to walk to Dataran Merdeka and sit down to get the message across.  Why are the authorities preparing for war?"

I sometimes wonder what sort of Malaysia will my baby tiger cub be born in to?  I doubt we can do much worse than now, however the politicians keep proving me wrong.

RunTigerRun stands in solidarity with Bersih 3.0 in wanting to make Malaysia a better place.

My Top 5 Favourite Songs with the word "Run" in the title

As I couldn't sleep, perhaps this rather useless list would help me; not to mention add a little variation to this blog.

The list is made up of my own personal favourites, some of the songs are pretty old and obscure but do give them a listen and I do hope that you will enjoy them as much as I do.

At #5, Southern rock band The Blues Traveler (yup, that's how they spelled it alright) with "Run-Around" from their 1994 album "four".

At #4, the Irish siblings The Corrs with "Runaway" from their 1997 (yes it was that long ago...) album "Talk On Corners".  Here's a beautiful unplugged version.

At #3, this song needs no introduction - dedicated to all runaway children everywhere and karaoke favourite- "Runaway Train", a classic from their 1993's "Grave Dancers Union" album.  Here's the iconic video.

At #2, Collective Soul used to be one of my favorite bands of the late 90s, not really sure though if they are still around.  This song simply titled "Run" was not really one of their biggest hits and was taken from the 1999 album "Dosage".  Apologies for the grainy video, as there are no better quality video of this song on YouTube.

And finally at #1, listening to this song for the first time, I used to wonder why i couldn't find this song in The Beatles' catalogue.  Only much later on I found out the band who performed this song was actually a side project/spin off by Paul McCartney and his band Wings.  This is from their 1973 album of the same name "Band On The Run".

That's it folks and hope that you've enjoyed them.  Next edition : My Top 5 Favourite Songs with tthe word "Baby" in the title.  That should be much easier, I guess....

Baby's (Tiger Cub) Timeline

Estimated Due Date: July 16th 2012

Countdown: 11 Weeks 6 Days to go!!!

Gestational Age: 28 Weeks 1 Days

Trimester: 3rd

The baby is as big as a: Small Cabbage (!) (43.18cm, 1.3kg)

Highlights:

This is Day 197 of the pregnancy and in less than 3 months, we will get to see tiger cub's entry in to this world.  Cheryl now have difficulty looking at her own belly button and her own legs due to the size of the tummy.  The fatigue factor is of course still there but good that she is still in good spirits.  This was partly due to the baby keeping her awake at times during the night and she would have trouble sleeping after that.  Any experienced mothers in similar situation before?

A Song for Cheryl

I was wondering who sang this song from the movie "Love in the Buff" (no, not Love in the Butt) since I saw the trailer a few weeks back.  Don't know how good is the movie yet but was rather fascinated with the song from this mysterious woman.  Well, what do you know with the wonders of Shazam ....

Love the song.  Love the lyrics.  Equally love the video.  Presenting Chinese mainland singer Wanting Qu with her song "Drenched".  This is for you Cheryl.

Baby's (Tiger Cub) Timeline

Estimated Due Date: July 16th 2012

Countdown: 12 Weeks 4 Days to go!!!

Gestational Age: 27 Weeks 3 Days

Trimester: 3rd

The baby is as big as a: Head of Cauliflower (40.6cm)

Highlights: This is the final trimester! After all the things we went through, it has been a rather whirlwind 6 months.  Tiger cub is "playing" more often and all this is even more visible to Cheryl.  The baby's movements are quite often compared to previously.  Can see that the pregnancy is taking its toll now on Cheryl - she now tires quite easily, BUT the good thing is she is still in good spirits!   The journey ahead remains a long and winding one, but we are more than happy to have each other to go through it together.

Pics to be uploaded soon....promise!

A New Phase, A New Beginning

2012 has been a momentous year for me so far.  The year started on sad note when Dad passed on just before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve.  Both New Year and Chinese New Year celebrations became instead muted and rather sad affairs where dad's presence was sorely missed.  Turning to February I became a victim of crime and was lucky to survive relatively unscathed - though there were some financial "implications".  So much for PEMANDU's boasts on the reduced crime rates!

Those were the downsides.  On a more positive note I will be a father/daddy/Papa this year come July ! My wife (Cheryl) and me can't wait for the baby to arrive soon enough but while D day draws nearer, a combined sense of nervousness, excitement and anxiety looms in the background.  There is no shortage of advice from friends whom are parents themselves on what to do/expect/ buy etc.  The extreme diversity of opinions offered sometimes left us confused and wondering what should be the best/ right solution.  This is where this blog comes in.  Other than to chart Cheryl's journey from pregancy to birth and beyond, I am looking forward to an exchange of experiences, ideas, best practices, tips, advice, old midwife/nanny tales etc all of which we hope will help us altogether to become better parents ourselves.

The objective of this blog is twofold though.  This blog will also be dedicated to my latest passion which is the most democratic of sports : running!  I ran my first road race this year (8km!) and I ran my first 10km last week too.  Yup, I know the distance are nothing to shout about; however bearing in mind yours truly used to struggle to complete a 400m lap and was never an avid runner till about July last year, quite honestly I think I'm entitled to a little sense of satisfaction.  My aim this year is to run my first 15km by Oct 2012 and hopefuly I'm already well on my way to achieve this aim.  I have confirmed participation in a few runs this year which I hope to share the experiences with fellow runners in my future posts.

On a final note, I will resist from turning this blog into a SoPo commentary though I can't guarantee that I will not comment on current events locally or aboard.  Given the world that we live in nowadays; it is simply pretentious to pretend we are living in silos - in complete disregard to the issues happening and impacting us daily.  I will make my views known but again I would like to stress, this will not be the main thrust or the Raison d'être of this blog.

Till the next post, adios.
